Kazuki Yamada will be making his Berlin Philharmonic debut in June 2025 with a Takemitsu and French orchestral performance. The Japan Philharmonic's Tokyo regular concert will also mark a return to a Japanese and French orchestral program for the first time in a long while. The concert will begin with Debussy's colorful "Jeux," his final ballet and orchestral work. Toru Takemitsu, who was greatly influenced by Debussy, will then present "My Way of Life - In Memory of Michael Weiner," a work filled with a sense of bliss, featuring a poem by Ryuichi Tamura, translated into English and embodied in the gentle, clear sound characteristic of Takemitsu's late works. The second half of the concert will begin with Ravel's well-known Boléro, and conclude with fellow French composer Poulenc's captivating "Stabat Mater," featuring serious yet enchanting harmonic beauty.
