[About "Musical Instrument Lessons for Ages 60 and Over"]
In September 2002, as part of an exchange program with Suginami Ward, with which the Japan Philharmonic has a friendly partnership, the "Instrumental Music Lessons for People Over 60" was launched for residents of the ward. This year marks the 23rd year of the program, aiming to further deepen exchanges between the Japan Philharmonic and Suginami residents, and to encourage people over 60 who have more free time in their lives to take on new challenges and live vibrant lives.
This musical instrument class for adults, taught by musicians and alumni of professional orchestras, is unique nationwide and attracts a diverse range of people, from those picking up an instrument for the first time to those with some playing experience in their youth. Participants have given feedback such as, "Through spending a year enjoying music with friends who share the same hobby, I was able to find a new goal and my life became more fulfilling," and "I've made new friends of my generation."
