[Obituary] Kazuyoshi Akiyama
Conductor Kazuyoshi Akiyama passed away on January 26, 2025. He was 84 years old.
Between 1969 and 72, he appeared at the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra's regular concerts many times, showcasing a diverse repertoire. After that, opportunities to perform together decreased for a while, but in 2022 he appeared at the Tokyo regular concert for the first time in 50 years. His gentle and warm personality and soft, elegant French music once again captivated both the audience and the stage.
We had been looking forward to him conducting again in 2024, but he was forced to step down due to a broken collarbone. And our promised collaboration in 2026 will also not be realized.
We would like to express our deepest gratitude for your many years of great contributions to the development of the music world, and offer our deepest condolences.
