[Obituary] Yoshio Mamiya

One of Japan's leading composers, Hitomiya Yoshio, passed away on December 11th at the age of 95.
He produced numerous masterpieces across a wide range of genres, including orchestral works, choral music, and operas. In particular, his works, which uniquely combine elements of traditional Japanese music and folk music, have been highly praised both at home and abroad, and have captivated the hearts of many music lovers.
With the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, he commissioned and premiered the "Violin Concerto" (1959) and "Concerto for Duo Grosso" (1966) as part of the "Japan Philharmonic Series."
The Violin Concerto was performed again at the Tokyo Regular Concert in September 2019, conducted by Yamada Kazuki, with solo concertmaster Tanokura Masaaki as soloist, and accompanied by Mr. Mamiya.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude for his many years of great contributions to the development of Japan's music scene, and offer our deepest condolences.
