Comprehensive Partnership Agreement Signed with Fukushima Prefecture

The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra signed a comprehensive partnership agreement with Fukushima Prefecture on July 22, 2024. The details of the agreement are as follows:

1. Recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake
2 Cultural promotion
3. Promoting music education
4. Promoting the appeal of Fukushima Prefecture
5. Other regional revitalization efforts

Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra has carried out the "Music for Disaster Areas" project 349 times over the past 13 years, bringing music to the disaster-stricken areas along the coast of the Tohoku region.
In 2019, with the aim of further supporting the recovery of the Tohoku region, we launched the "Tohoku Dream Project" in Iwate Prefecture, inviting children from all over Tohoku who are engaged in local performing arts and school culture (music, performing arts, etc.) to perform and supporting their smiles, futures, and dreams. We had planned to hold the event in Fukushima Prefecture from 2020, but due to the impact of the COVID-8 pandemic and the earthquake, we were finally able to hold it in 2023, and this year it is scheduled for August 11th. We are also currently continuing our activities in disaster-stricken coastal areas and areas where evacuation orders have been lifted due to the nuclear accident, and in 2021 we received the 16th Goto Shinpei Award in recognition of these activities.
Taking advantage of the opportunity presented by the conclusion of the comprehensive partnership agreement with Fukushima Prefecture, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra aims to further support the reconstruction of the Tohoku region, and will also promote various initiatives, such as promoting local culture and the arts, revitalizing the community, and promoting the healthy development of children.
