The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra has signed a partnership agreement with Iwate Prefecture
On May 19, 2023, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra signed a partnership agreement with Iwate Prefecture with the aim of promoting culture and the arts in the prefecture and creating a happy and culturally rich region by nurturing children who will lead the next generation through music.
Since the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra has visited disaster-stricken areas along the Tohoku coastline to deliver music 326 times over the past 12 years through its "Music for Disaster-Stricken Areas" program, including 90 events in Iwate Prefecture. In 2021, the orchestra received recognition for these activities, receiving the 16th Goto Shinpei Award, named after a great figure from Iwate Prefecture. In 2019, the orchestra launched the "Tohoku Dream Project," aiming to further support the recovery of the Tohoku region by showcasing children active in local performing arts and school culture (music, performing arts, etc.) throughout the Tohoku region through orchestral performances, and supporting their smiles, futures, and dreams. The project has held three performances in Morioka City. The fourth performance in the prefecture will be held in August 2023, sponsored by the executive committee (Iwate Prefecture, Iwate Arts and Culture Association, Iwate Nippo, and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra).
Following the signing of the partnership agreement with Iwate Prefecture, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra will continue its activities aimed at supporting the reconstruction of the Tohoku region, promoting local culture and arts, revitalizing the community, and promoting the healthy development of children.
