The 48th Japan Philharmonic Kyushu Concert will be held soon!

A unique collaborative project to create a musical culture through collaboration between citizens and an orchestra

The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra's Kyushu tour began with six performances in 1975, and this year marks its 48th year. Starting on February 11 in Kitakyushu (Fukuoka Prefecture), the orchestra will deliver powerful live orchestral performances to 10 districts across seven prefectures in Kyushu, including Kumamoto, Oita, Miyazaki, Kagoshima, Fukuoka, Omuta (Fukuoka Prefecture), Nagasaki, Karatsu (Saga Prefecture), and Saga.

The Kyushu Performances have been running continuously for nearly half a century and are a proud cultural asset of Japan. Its greatest feature is that since 1975, it has been run by executive committees with the voluntary participation of local residents in all regions.
Orchestral music encourages, heals, and gives people the strength to live, and it gives children creativity and the courage to face things.
The organizing committee and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, working hand in hand with the local audience, continue to work to promote a culture that is truly rooted in the local community.
In August 2022, Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture and "Agreement to Promote Attractive Urban Development Through Music"We hope to further develop exchanges through music and the establishment of culture while deepening cooperation with local governments in the future.

For those who have not yet experienced the Japan Philharmonic Kyushu performance, we hope you will come to a venue near you and experience the powerful sound of a full orchestra! And for those who look forward to it every year, we hope you will look forward to it even more than usual.

The conductor for this concert will be Junichi Hirokami, Japan's leading conductor and Friend of the JPO (Artistic Advisor). They share a deep and powerful bond with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. The soloists are Haruma Sato (cello), the first Japanese to win the cello category at the prestigious and long-standing Munich International Music Competition in 2019, and Manami Kobayashi (piano), who has performed with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra since the age of 16 and placed fourth at the 2021 Chopin International Piano Competition. This collaboration will bring you the latest music. Sato is a talented, up-and-coming cellist who has performed with a variety of artists, including flutist Cocomi. Kobayashi also shared happy news on New Year's Day, sparking a celebratory mood for the birth of this big classical music couple.
Additionally, Nagasaki Karatsu concert will feature Nagasaki-born guitarist Osamu Yamaguchi, who is celebrating his 50th year as a performer. He is a veteran who has performed with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra over 80 times, including on tours in Europe.

The Kyushu concert will allow you to be enchanted by Junichi Hirokami's vibrant conducting, be captivated by the passionate collaboration of the soloists, and enjoy the dynamic world of sound of the orchestra. We look forward to seeing you again this year in a hall near you.

Message from Osamu Yamaguchi

Since meeting the members of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in Kyushu in my youth, I have had the opportunity to perform with them on many occasions, including on tours in Europe. These experiences are a treasure in my life and fuel my current activities. Now that I am older, I will once again play with my guitar, expressing my heartfelt gratitude to the maestro, the orchestra, the audience, and everyone.
