[Pursuing the ideal ensemble with world-renowned oboist and conductor François Leroux]
François Leroux is a world-renowned French oboist who has recently expanded his conducting career, truly a "musician." As an oboist, he has performed with renowned orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, and is also an avid chamber musician, regularly performing around the world with recital partners such as the sextet Les Vents Français, which includes flutist Emmanuel Pahud, and renowned pianists Batiashvili and Le Sage. As a conductor, his 2021/22 season includes guest appearances with the Swiss Radio Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Hungarian National Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestra of Europe, and City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Dvorak's "Serenade for Wind Instruments" is a masterpiece that, despite its rich musical content, is rarely performed due to its somewhat unusual instrumentation. The music, performed by an ensemble of wind instruments, cello, and double bass, weaves a simple soundscape reminiscent of folk music with Dvorak's unique melodic and formal beauty throughout. Enjoy the first half of the piece along with an excerpt from the masterpiece "Legend," which is also woven with Czech national pride.
In the second half, you will be able to fully enjoy the talents of oboist Leroux through a Mozart concerto. Enjoy a moment of ecstasy as you are led by the exquisite tone that has captivated the world. Finally, from Leroux's native France, we will present Bizet's Symphony. This witty and inspiring work left behind by this genius composer truly comes to life through the chamber music approach of a conductor and orchestra.
Please look forward to this memorable performance, which will be the first time that Leroux and the Japan Philharmonic will perform together.
