The 25th Tsubetsu Japan Philharmonic Orchestra Seminar was held for the first time in three years (Report)

th It's travel day. We headed to Memanbetsu Airport from Haneda Airport with the double bass. It was a beautiful sunny day, with a clear view of Cape Erimo and Lake Akan. Starting tomorrow, the sounds of various instruments will echo throughout the town of Tsubetsu!

th On the first day of the "Tsubetsu Japan Philharmonic Seminar," the musicians got together and began practicing in each section right away.
th The second day of the "Tsubetsu Japan Philharmonic Seminar" was a splendid ensemble performance. The performers gathered on stage and began with the opening ceremony.
After greetings from Executive Committee Chairman Harada and Deputy Mayor Ito, who is also a cello student, and an explanation of the schedule by Executive Committee member Nagano, it was finally time for the ensemble to perform. The assigned piece was Kalinnikov's Symphony No. 1, premiered in Kyiv (Ukraine) in 1897. Kalinnikov's masterpiece, which connects the lineage of Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff but whose existence had been lost to obscurity due to his premature death at the age of 34, resonates impressively with ethnic phrases evocative of the vastness of Russia. With precise direction from Maestro Hiraishi, the piece quickly took on a three-dimensional form.

This morning, seven wind and percussion instructors held a clinic for the Tsubetsu Junior High School brass band, which Maestro Hiraishi conducted yesterday. After a lunch break, there was ensemble practice from 1:30 to 3:30 PM, and then a separate rehearsal between the string and percussion groups from 4 to 6 PM (the string section was conducted by Hiraishi, and the percussion section was conducted by flute instructor and Japan Philharmonic alumnus Abe). After dinner (the homemade curry and fresh vegetable salad prepared by the organizing committee were delicious!), there was an ensemble rehearsal from 7 to 8 PM, bringing the long day to a close. Some enthusiastic sections even stayed behind to practice afterward.
Tomorrow is the final day of the concert!

th The 25th Tsubetsu Japan Philharmonic Seminar is already on its final day. After a morning rehearsal with the strings and brass sections, and a dress rehearsal in the afternoon, the concert is about to begin.

Program
①Tsubetsu Junior High School Brass Band: ♪Hirokazu Fukushima: The sky where the wind always meets
②♪ Kalinnikov: Symphony No. 1
③ (Encore) ♪ Mascagni: Intermezzo from "Cavalleria Rusticana"

Organized by: 35th Children's Art Plaza Tsubetsu Japan Philharmonic Seminar Concert Project Executive Committee
Co-hosted by Tsubetsu Town and Tsubetsu Town Board of Education

Instructors for flute, clarinet, trumpet, horn, trumpet and percussion also participated in the Tsubetsu Junior High School Wind Orchestra's performance. Maestro Hiraishi's ensemble instruction (9th) and a clinic by the instructors (10th) helped to clarify the sound of each part, and the band's lively performance, typical of junior high school students, was met with warm applause.
During the speech by Chairman Harada, the stage was changed and all the students and instructors gathered on stage. Maestro Hiraishi's delicate yet dynamic baton led to a sonorous rendition of Kalinnikov's Symphony No. 1, which drew thunderous applause at the thunderous finale.

We received many comments from customers saying, "It was a song I didn't know, but it was easy to listen to."
In a nutshell, "Amateur orchestra members from all over the country gather in the nature-rich town of Tsubetsu to complete a symphony in just two days through part practice, individual rehearsals, and ensemble rehearsals!"
The appeal of this short, intensive seminar is that it allows you to immerse yourself in music with members of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and the first day's "We might not make it!" turns into "We did it!" two days later.
One participant commented, "The instructor's instruction was an eye-opener," while the instructor commented, "It was fun to watch the students improve more and more," which seemed to succinctly express the significance of this seminar.
It was the first time the event had been held in three years, and with the addition of infection prevention measures, I imagine it must have been extremely difficult to organize. However, not a single person became ill, and it was a great success.
In the northern land, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra's "walking together with the citizens" activities have been gradually passed on to younger musicians and have continued for 25 years.

Thank you very much to everyone who attended and to the organizing committee.

Members of amateur orchestras across the country

The "Tsubetsu Japan Philharmonic Seminar" is a seminar where participants learn how to complete parts and symphonies based on ensembles through part practice and ensemble practice with members of the Japan Philharmonic as instructors.
There will also be opportunities for participants to interact with each other and the instructors, so why not spend three days immersed in nature and music?
