Masaaki Tanokura appointed solo concertmaster

Masaaki Tanokura, who has served as concertmaster of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra since 2019, will become solo concertmaster from September 2022.
Starting in September, we will be delivering even more fulfilling performances under our new structure.

To commemorate his appointment, Masaaki Tanokura will be the soloist for the first half of the concerto and the concertmaster for the second half of the symphony at the Tokyo Regular Concert in September.

Masaaki Tanokura
He attended the Tokyo University of the Arts High School of Music and then went on to study at the Tokyo University of the Arts. He studied abroad at the Juilliard School. He was a 2000 artist overseas trainee sponsored by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. He has won top prizes in numerous competitions, including second place at the 1995 Music Competition of Japan and first place at the 6th Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition. He has served as concertmaster of the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra, Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, and principal concertmaster of the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 2019 he became concertmaster of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and in September he became solo concertmaster of the orchestra and concertmaster of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra. He is highly trusted and frequently appointed as concertmaster by orchestras and conductors both in Japan and abroad. He is originally from Tokyo.
