Japan Philharmonic Yokohama Regular Concert 50th Anniversary: New Concept of "Yokohama Cultural Wonderland"

In 1973, the Japan Philharmonic became the first professional orchestra to hold regular concerts in Yokohama.
The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra's Yokohama Regular Concert, which has been loved by many audiences for many years, will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2023. Performances will then resume at the renovated Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall in November 2022.
More fun, more interesting, and deeper! Based on the concept of "Yokohama Cultural Wonderland," we will present a new way to enjoy concerts where history, art, literature... culture and music resonate together.
With Professor Masayasu Komiya of Yokohama National University as concept supervisor, the more you learn, the more enjoyable your time will become. Please come and enjoy the music and the culture surrounding it at the new Yokohama Regular Concert.

"Symphonies of 'Passion' and 'Butoh' interpreted from socio-cultural history"
The 19th century saw the birth of many works that dealt with the same subject matter but had significantly different meanings from those that came before. This time, we will look at two of these works: Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6 (Pathétique), originally titled "Pathétique," and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7, also known as the "Sanctification of the Dance," and explore their messages from the perspective of social and cultural history. We will also explore the various musical devices embedded in these works through performances and interviews with Tomotoshi Goto, former principal viola player of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra (currently Executive Director).
