[Important] Notice of changes regarding the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra's June performances

2022年6月10日(金)第378回横浜Subscription Concert、12日(日)第396回名曲コンサート並びに6月17日(金)、18日(土)第741回東京Subscription Concertに出演予定でした桂冠指揮者兼芸術顧問のアレクサンドル・ラザレフ氏は、現在起きている諸状況を考慮し、楽団と同氏の双方で協議を重ねた結果、残念ながら今回の来日を断念することになりました。
We sincerely apologize for the late notice.

The 378th Yokohama Regular Concert on Friday the 10th and the 396th Masterpiece Concert on Sunday the 12th will be conducted by Friend of the JPO (Artistic Advisor) Junichi Hirokami, and there will be no changes to the soloist program.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Hirokami for accepting the role of substitute at short notice.

We are currently in the process of deciding on an alternative conductor and program for the 741st Tokyo Regular Concert on Friday the 17th and Saturday the 18th.
We ask for your patience for a little while longer.
*A new program has been decided (announced on May 9th).

HIROKAMI Junichi, Friend of JPO/Artistic Advisor

Born in Tokyo, he studied piano and composition under Atsutada Otaka, and learned music and how to play music. He graduated from the conducting department of the Tokyo College of Music. In 1984, at the age of 26, he won the 1st Kirill Kondrashin International Competition for Young Conductors. Since then, he has performed as a guest with major orchestras such as the Orchestre National de France, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, Concertgebouw Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, and Vienna Symphony Orchestra. He has also held posts with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Limburg Symphony Orchestra, and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, including a performance in Japan with the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra in 1994. He also served as music director of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra in the United States, where he gave numerous memorable performances with great soloists such as Yo-Yo Ma and Midori.

In recent years, he has appeared as a guest with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra of Milan, the Swiss-Italian Orchestra, the Monte Carlo Philharmonic, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra, the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Slovenian Philharmonic, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. In Japan, he has been invited to conduct orchestras across Japan, as well as the Saito Kinen Orchestra and the Mito Chamber Orchestra, to great acclaim. His opera conducting debut at the Sydney Opera House, where he received acclaim for his performances of Verdi's Un ballo in maschera and Rigoletto, has led numerous successful productions across a wide repertoire, from Gluck and Mozart to Puccini, and even the Japan premiere of Osvald Golijov's Ainadamar.

He served as the Principal Conductor of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra from September 1991 to August 2000. In April 2008, he became the Principal Conductor of the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra, and in April 2014, he became its Principal Conductor and Music Advisor. In 2015, he received the Suntory Music Prize together with the orchestra. In April 2017, he also served as the Friendship Guest Conductor of the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra. In April 2020, his 13th season as Principal Conductor, he became the 13th Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Kyoto Symphony Orchestra. In April 2020, he also served as the Director of Kyoto Concert Hall. In September 2021, he became a Friend of the JPO (Artistic Advisor) of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. He is also passionate about education as a Professor of Conducting at Tokyo College of Music.
