Cancellation of the 46th Kyushu Concert and Notice of a Special Concert (Live Viewing & Live Streaming Available)
Since 1975, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra has been holding tours in all seven prefectures of Kyushu in collaboration with an executive committee made up of local citizens. This year, as the spread of COVID-7 continues unabated, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra Kyushu Performance Liaison Committee, which is made up of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and local executive committees, has been carefully discussing and considering the possibility of holding the tour.
As a result, we have come to the conclusion that the Executive Committee is unable to meet and carry out its activities, there are many regions where there are concerns about preparations for the performances, the infection situation has yet to improve in some areas, and above all, the safety of the citizens and preventing the spread of infection are of utmost importance at this time. Therefore, although it is very unfortunate, both the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra Kyushu Performance Liaison Committee have decided that it will be impossible to hold the usual two-week Kyushu performances planned for February 2021.
However, in order to keep the light of this historic Kyushu concert alive, we have decided to make use of the program that was originally scheduled to be performed in Kyushu and hold a special concert in Tokyo with conductor Yukio Fujioka and popular pianist Mao Fujita, who was scheduled to perform this year. Live viewing will be held in Oita and Nagasaki, and a live archive will be streamed so that a wide audience can enjoy the concert from home. As a ray of hope amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we hope to continue this project with Kyushu concerts from 2022 onwards.
