One-day only "Summer Vacation Concert 2020" feat. Tohoku Dream Project

Let's all connect with the orchestra♪ Special event to be held!

Since its first performance in 1975, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra's Summer Vacation Concert has provided a wide range of regions with opportunities for nearly half a century to experience classical music performed by a real orchestra. In recent years, it has been held in Tokyo, Kyoto, the three surrounding prefectures, and in Tohoku as part of the "Tohoku Dream Project," welcoming many children. While the 2020 concert was canceled due to difficulties in holding it in its original format, this one-day concert will allow many people to enjoy the live orchestral performance and fun atmosphere. Additionally, video guests from the Miyako High School Wind Orchestra, Akazawa Yoroikenbu (Ofunato City), and Minamisoma City Haramachi Daiichi Junior High School Wind Orchestra, all of whom are supported by the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra through the "Tohoku Dream Project," will also appear. Furthermore, the orchestra will host its first live viewing at Miyako Civic Cultural Hall and Minamisoma Civic Cultural Hall Yume Hatto. Enjoy the concert in various ways, whether at the venue, online, or in Tohoku!

"Tohoku Dream Project"

The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra has been providing musical support to the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake for 294 performances. With the passage of time since the disaster and memories of the disaster relief efforts fading, the orchestra launched a new project in 2019 in which children engaged in cultural activities across Tohoku perform together with the orchestra, driven by a strong desire to support the dreams and futures of children in Tohoku. The project is being promoted with the support and cooperation of many people in order to disseminate unique and new cultural ideas that bring together a diverse range of genres, including orchestras, wind bands, and traditional performing arts, and to create a forum for interaction that transcends regions and generations.
