Report on the 70th Anniversary Special Concert: Mahler's "Symphony of a Thousand" conducted by Kah-Chun Wong

On June 22, 2026, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra celebrated its 70th anniversary. Since its founding in 1956, we have been able to reach this significant milestone thanks to the support of many people. We express our heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and for walking alongside society while cherishing the potential of music.

On the 21st and 22nd, we held a special concert to commemorate our 70th anniversary at Suntory Hall, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. Under the baton of Principal Conductor Kah-Chung Wong, we performed Mahler's "Symphony of a Thousand," a piece we have performed at various milestones in our careers, together with soloists who have close ties to the hall, the Japan Philharmonic Association Chorus, the Musashino Chorus, the Tokyo College of Music Chorus, and the Suginami Children's Chorus. The passionate performance by approximately 500 people filled the hall with emotion and became a performance that symbolized the Japan Philharmonic's journey and its determination for the future.

Thank you so much for the warm applause we received from so many people for a long time after the performance ended. Your kind words were a great encouragement to all the performers and staff involved. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who supported the performance.
