"Bringing the brilliance of Tohoku's children to Tokyo!"
The Great East Japan Earthquake struck in March 2011. Faced with the devastating damage, the "Music for the Disaster Areas" initiative began as a search for ways to contribute. Looking back, the initiative has now been held more than 370 times over the past 14 years and continues to this day. The "Tohoku Dream Project," launched in Iwate Prefecture in 2019 and Fukushima Prefecture in 2023, aims to further support the recovery of the Tohoku region by bringing together the orchestra and the wonderful culture of children from across the Tohoku region every year, fostering exchange, development, and dissemination. For this performance, two of the groups the orchestra has encountered thus far will be invited to Tokyo: Akazawa Yoroikenbu (Armored Sword Dance) from Ofunato City, Iwate Prefecture, and Choir School from southern Fukushima Prefecture. Together with the orchestra, they will perform a performance of the "present" and "future" of Tohoku.
