Kobaken, the flame that weaves thoughts, presents a special sound for the 70th anniversary

For the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, which will celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2026, Sibelius's Symphony No. 2 can be considered its "company song." It can also be considered our "roots," having been performed at the orchestra's first regular concert in 1957, conducted by founding conductor Akio Watanabe. For this performance, we will perform this treasured work with heartfelt emotion under the baton of Honorary Conductor Laureate Kenichiro Kobayashi, who was also mentored by Watanabe. The first half of the concert will feature a dazzling performance of Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante by two of the orchestra's most renowned musicians, violinist Kiyoka Chiba and violist Mari Adachi. Enjoy the performances of these two indispensable figures in the current Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.
