The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra offers hands-on programs and workshops that go beyond simply listening to music, allowing participants to actively engage with music through performance, creation, and dialogue. From children to adults, we value providing a space where rich dialogue and discoveries can take place, allowing participants to express themselves and resonate with others through these experiences.

How the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra organizes workshops
The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra's workshops are designed in a collaborative manner, teaming up with a diverse range of talent, including musicians, educators, and welfare, medical, and community experts.
This is an opportunity that requires not only performance skills but also planning, organization, and facilitation skills, and the orchestra members themselves also work as workshop designers and facilitators.

Examples of major initiatives

Music experience workshop
This program allows participants to get closer to the true essence of music by creating and assembling sounds themselves while learning the essence of the work through hands-on experience.
We carefully research the musical elements, the composer's background and time period, spirituality and worldview, and cultural background and customs contained in the selected works, and extract their essential elements. Based on these elements, we relive the creative process that composers go through to create their works. This experience of "going inside the music" that cannot be gained through listening alone is designed to be enjoyable even without specialized knowledge, and is a learning opportunity that stimulates the creativity of a wide range of generations, from elementary school students to adults.

Collaborative workshops with educational institutions
We provide opportunities for communication centered on music at elementary and junior high schools, special needs schools, etc. We not only introduce instruments and offer conducting experiences, but also develop programs that focus on cross-curricular perspectives and "self-expression."
