~Friendly partnership between Suginami Ward and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra~
In July 1994, Suginami City and the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra signed a memorandum of understanding (friendship partnership) on mutual cooperation, with the aim of promoting rich exchanges among local residents through music and the promotion of local culture.
Suginami Ward provides support to the orchestra, such as helping to secure practice venues, and in addition to orchestra concerts, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra also holds activities such as concerts in the ward office lobby, open rehearsals, ``traveling concerts,'' ``traveling music classes,'' and ``Spring Break Orchestra Exploration (Education Festival in Suginami),'' creating opportunities for residents of Suginami, where the orchestra is based, to experience high-quality culture in their own homes.
They perform in Suginami ward 50 times a year, with audiences of over 2 people.

We hold concerts at Suginami Public Hall where you can enjoy the power of a full orchestra.
All 5th graders from Suginami City's elementary schools (42 schools), 2nd graders from junior high schools (23 schools), and schools for the disabled will participate, and children will listen to famous pieces performed by a full orchestra at Suginami Public Hall. This will enhance their sensitivity and sophistication towards orchestral music, and teach them proper listening etiquette.
We bring live chamber music ensembles to Suginami City public elementary and junior high schools. In cooperation with the teachers, we create programs that allow children to experience the joy of music together with the musicians.
Comment from a teacher at a participating school: "It was really touching to see the children naturally start singing along with the music and enjoying the music together. It really brought home to me the wonderful feeling of letting the children listen to real music."
Concerts are held in local areas such as nurseries, community centers, and elderly care facilities. We also accept public applications for locations where we can travel.
During weekday lunchtimes, members of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra will perform chamber music in the ward office lobby.
This is an opportunity to experience up close the music-making process of a conductor and orchestra, something that is rarely seen in everyday life, and to develop an interest in classical music.
This is an experiential event held in the entire Suginami Public Hall. Many families participate each time, and music helps to develop the creativity and cooperation of children who will lead the future.
We are engaging in exchanges through music, such as teaching junior high school ensembles in Minamisoma City, which has a mutual aid agreement with the ward in the event of a disaster.

The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra uses Suginami Public Hall as its home base and spreads the appeal of classical music.
The wonderful acoustics of Suginami Public Hall, which reopened after renovation in 2006, have been highly praised by conductors and soloists who have performed there, and it is a great source of pride for the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra to be able to perform in such a hall.
The Japan Philharmonic Orchestra will continue to strive for coexistence and development with the local community, taking advantage of this wonderful environment in which music and the hall are close to us as "an indispensable part of our lives," so that on concert days the streets will be filled with music fans and Ogikubo, the "town of classical music," will be filled with vitality.
