Small ensemble visits to schools and hospitals

Making the most of the orchestra's strengths

The Japan Philharmonic is one orchestra, but an orchestra is also a group of artists who bring together experts in all kinds of instruments.

Chamber music concerts allow each artist to showcase their musical talents in a different way. Members of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra perform in groups such as string quartets, woodwind quintets, brass quintets, and sometimes violin duos and woodwind trios.

We perform in a variety of venues. We sometimes hold concerts in music halls, but most of our performances are at places close to where you live, such as schools, hospitals, nurseries, and community centers. Our band members visit these venues and create custom-made programs, mixing everything from classical masterpieces to music from anime and movies, for you to enjoy.

The audience listens intently, their eyes wide open, as they listen to the music unfolding so close they can reach out and touch it, then applauds enthusiastically. The orchestra members feel the audience's reactions and become even more passionate about their performance...the lively exchange of invisible communication is the true joy of these "outreach" concerts.

This initiative aims to bring the joy of music up close to people who, for various reasons, usually have few opportunities to visit a concert hall.
