Music has the power to heal and encourage people's hearts. It is not something physical, not words, but the intangible art of music that has such a power to affect people's hearts. We hope to be able to use this power for everyone. "Music for Disaster Areas" is a project in which musicians travel to areas affected by disasters such as earthquakes and floods to heal people's hearts and deepen connections through their performances.
Starting with support activities following the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake (1995), the group has continued to hold support concerts in Kumamoto Prefecture (2016 Kumamoto Earthquake), Okayama Prefecture (2018 Western Japan Floods), and the Tohoku region, which was hit by the Great East Japan Earthquake (2011).

The content of the visits is diverse, and goes beyond just delivering music through visiting concerts for chamber music such as string quartets. Here too, the unique approach of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, which is pioneering in the fields of education and community activities, is at work.
Examples of activities

□Music Creation Workshop
□Performance instruction/joint performances (wind band, junior orchestra)
□ Instrument experience (violin experience)
□ Lecture by orchestra members
Both programs were developed based on ideas born from communication with local people, and they use music to cheer people up, promote interaction, and revitalize the local community.
In July 2022, the group received the 16th Goto Shinpei Award for its activities, including "Music for Disaster-stricken Areas."
