On March 11, 2025, 14 years after the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra appeared at the Great East Japan Earthquake Memorial Memorial and Recovery Prayer Ceremony, which was organized by Fukushima Prefecture as part of reconstruction support activities based on the Comprehensive Partnership Agreement with Fukushima Prefecture. The string quartet performed pieces such as "Gunjo," which is associated with the Odaka district of Minamisoma City, Fukushima Prefecture.
To date, the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra has carried out the "Music for Disaster-Stricken Areas" musical support activity 360 times across Tohoku, and since 2019 has been running the "Tohoku Dream Project" in Iwate and Fukushima prefectures, which aims to support reconstruction efforts by supporting children's cultural activities.
We signed a comprehensive partnership agreement with Fukushima Prefecture in July 2024, and will continue to work with the disaster-stricken areas as they work hard to rebuild. We will also continue to support the transition of school club activities, which are currently facing challenges, to the local community, promote local culture, and disseminate information.
