Tomoki Yamada
YAMADA Tomoki
Born in Miharu Town, Fukushima Prefecture. Graduated from the Instrumental Music Department of the Faculty of Music, Tokyo University of the Arts. Studied cello under Masaharu Kanaya, the late Yasushi Horie, Toshiaki Hayashi, and Peter Wolf. Studied chamber music under Toshiyuki Usuka, Kazuki Sawa, the late Kiyoshi Okayama, and Katsumi Ueda. Received the Encouragement Award at the 2nd Sapporo Junior Cello Competition. Since 2003, has studied at the Darmstadt Music Academy in Germany as a trainee artist of the Agency for Cultural Affairs. In addition to solo and chamber music activities, he is also dedicated to teaching younger generations, including in amateur orchestras.
| What made you start playing an instrument? | I started playing the piano at age 3, but I wasn't very good at it, so I switched to another instrument. Because I was big and had large hands, I ended up with the cello. |
