One of my favorite songs Mahler: Symphony No. 9 in D major

Beethoven, Schubert, Bruckner... The 9th symphony was the last of all the great composers. There is a famous anecdote that Mahler believed the rumor that "writing the 9th symphony will lead to death," so he did not number his 9th symphony, Das Lied von der Erde. In the end, this turned out to be true.
When I listen to this piece, I feel, to use a slightly occult term, like I'm having a near-death experience. Of course, there's no way to know for sure what the truth is, but I can't help but think that perhaps Mahler could already see the other world. It's not just mysterious and terrifying, but it's like a return to a natural world that transcends it. His student Bruno Walter wrote, "In the final movement, he peacefully bids farewell to this world. The conclusion is like a white cloud melting into the blue sky." It is a moment of the most ephemeral and beautiful beauty.
