| One of my favorite songs | Dvorak: Symphony No. 9 "From the New World"
My favorite piece is Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World." This was the first orchestral piece I performed when I was a member of the Sagamihara Junior Orchestra. I still remember being struck by how familiar the melody was when I first encountered this piece at around age 11 or 12. I particularly like the second movement, which gives a strong sense that the composer was thinking back to his distant hometown and was overcome with longing. The small string ensemble at the end of the second movement is so beautiful it takes your breath away. |
