OGITANI Yasutomo

Solo Concertmaster

After graduating from the music department of Toho Gakuen School of Music (co-educational) and Toho Gakuen University, she studied at the Royal Conservatory of Belgium in 1998, graduating in 2000. While at Toho Gakuen, she was selected for the 62nd Japan Music Competition. She has served as concertmaster of the Royal Chamber Orchestra and also performed as a soloist with the orchestra. She became concertmaster of the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra in July 2004 and solo concertmaster of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra in April 2006, and currently serves as solo concertmaster of both orchestras. She has also been active in a wide range of fields, including the Miyazaki International Music Festival, the JT Art Hall Chamber Music Series, and the Saito Kinen Festival. She has studied under Hidetaka Murayama, Masami Tomioka, Murasaki Fukushima, Tsuguo Tokunaga, and Igor Oistrakh. She has been a Larsen Artist since 2024.https://larsenstrings.com

 

One of my favorite songs Schumann: Symphony No. 2 in C major, Op. 61

Schumann was not only a composer but also a critic. He is famous for saying, "Gentlemen, this is a genius! Take off your hats!" after listening to Brahms's work. Schumann's appeal lies above all in the composer's changing state of mind, or rather, in the sense of imbalance. Symphony No. 2 is not performed as often as Symphony Nos. 3 and 4, but it is the most Schumann-like piece.
