| One of my favorite songs | Brahms: Symphony No. 4
This was Brahms' last symphony, and he was known as a representative Romantic composer. Yet, with its touches of Baroque technique, it perhaps heralded a new era in composition. I particularly like the first and second movements, which personally evoke a melancholic autumn scene, sepia-toned as colorful leaves fall. The music itself, its beautiful and profound melody, compelling each note to be played with care and cherishing, is irresistible for string instruments. The dizzying transitions, sometimes frenzied and sometimes sane, somehow feel smooth and even familiar, reminiscent of the changing human emotions. |
