Hiroki Kadowaki
KADOWAKI Hiroki
He attended the high school attached to the Faculty of Music at Tokyo University of the Arts and graduated from the same university. He placed third in the 5th Viva Hall Cello Competition, third in the 74th Music Competition of Japan, and first in the Salzburg-Mozart International Chamber Music Competition. He received the Energia Music Award in 2016. He received a scholarship from the ROHM Music Foundation to study at the Reggio Emilia Accademia. He then took a master class with Anner Bylsma at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. He is currently an associate professor at Tokyo College of Music. He served as principal cellist of the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra before becoming solo cellist of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.
| What made you start playing an instrument? | Apparently, my older brother had started playing the violin before me, and I said to him, "I want to play something bigger than my brother." (I don't remember.) I also think that the fact that there was a local junior orchestra motivated me to continue. |
